THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has disowned a viral notice claiming that a special window for the redeployment of corps members had been opened, warning members of the public not to fall victim to fraudsters behind the false information.
News Point Nigeria reports that the scheme flagged the circulating notice as fake on Friday through its verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, stressing that the purported redeployment announcement did not originate from the NYSC.
The fraudulent notice, titled “URGENT NOTICE: NYSC REDEPLOYMENT,” was addressed to parents and guardians and claimed that a special redeployment window had been opened due to issues relating to national security, health and the general state of the nation.
The fake message urged corps members with what it described as “genuine grounds” to apply promptly to ensure their safety, proper placement and timely completion of their national service.
It also directed prospective applicants seeking assistance to contact two listed telephone numbers “ASAP,” claiming that valid documents were required and that all applications must comply with NYSC guidelines.
Reacting to the development, the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters issued a disclaimer on its verified X handle, @officialnyscng, clearly labelling the notice as false.
The scheme stamped the circulating message with a bold “FAKE NEWS” watermark and warned the public against relying on or acting upon the fraudulent publication.
As of the time of filing this report, the NYSC had not disclosed the identities of those responsible for circulating the fake notice.
The development is not the first time fraudsters have exploited the NYSC redeployment process to defraud unsuspecting corps members and their families.
The scheme, under the leadership of its Director-General, Olakunle Nafiu, has consistently maintained that all deployment and redeployment matters are processed exclusively through its official portal and designated NYSC offices.
It also reiterated that it does not authorise agents, third parties or phone-based processing for redeployment or any other official service.
The NYSC urged corps members, parents, guardians and members of the public to verify every communication purportedly issued by the scheme through its official website and verified social media platforms before taking any action or making any payment.
