THE Oyo State Government on Monday demolished a building identified as one of the locations where the sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons were allegedly held captive by kidnappers in Ibadan.
News Point Nigeria reports that the demolished structure was reportedly linked to the gang responsible for the abduction of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.
The action followed investigations conducted after the victims were rescued, with authorities identifying the building as one of the hideouts allegedly used by the kidnappers during the period of captivity.
Mrs. John-Paul and her sons were abducted along Elewura, Ring Road, Ibadan, while she was taking the children to school, according to an earlier report by News Point Nigeria.
The demolition exercise was carried out by the Oyo State Ministry of Lands and Housing in collaboration with security agencies following intelligence reports that linked the structure to the criminal operation.
Explaining the rationale behind the action, the state government said the demolition formed part of its broader efforts to reinforce a zero-tolerance stance against criminality and dismantle facilities allegedly used to perpetrate crimes.
The victims were eventually rescued during a coordinated operation by the Nigeria Police Force, which led to the neutralisation of two suspected kidnappers and the arrest of several others connected to the crime.
The government maintained that the demolition sends a strong message to criminal elements that properties used for unlawful activities will not be tolerated in the state as authorities continue efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes.
