THE Kano State Police Command has made extensive preparations to address potential security threats ahead of a rumored nationwide protest scheduled for October 1st.
During a press conference at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, assured residents that the command has deployed security personnel to strategic locations across the state to maintain law and order.
“We have concluded all necessary arrangements to provide adequate security during and after the Independence Day celebrations,” CP Garba stated.
“I urge all Kano State residents to cooperate with the police and other security agencies, and to participate in the celebration responsibly, adhering to all safety guidelines and respecting the rights of others.”
Amid concerns over the potential disruption caused by the alleged protest, the Police Commissioner emphasized the importance of a peaceful environment during the Independence Day festivities, which are scheduled for October 15th in Kano State.
He warned against any activities that might jeopardize the peace in the state, and reaffirmed the police command’s readiness to respond swiftly to any unlawful gatherings.
In light of the recent security concerns, CP Garba acknowledged that while crime rates in the state have decreased, “there is still much work to be done.”
The police command, he said, remains committed to adapting its strategies to address emerging security challenges.
“We will continue to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens while taking necessary measures against those who threaten public safety.”
During the press briefing, the Commissioner also highlighted several achievements of the Police Command over the past 18 days.
A total of 89 suspects were arrested, including 15 armed robbery suspects, 10 suspected drug dealers, and 45 suspected thugs.
The police also rescued two victims of human trafficking and two kidnapping victims, as well as recovering a variety of illicit drugs, weapons, and stolen property.
“Members of the public should continue cooperating with the Police by providing valuable intelligence and support in ensuring our collective safety and security,” urged CP Garba.
As the state prepares for the Independence Day celebrations, the Commissioner of Police concluded by expressing condolences to the families of five officers who tragically lost their lives in a motor accident on September 23rd.
“We collectively pray for the repose of their souls and wish a speedy recovery to the injured officers,” he said.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities to the nearest Police station or through the Kano State Police Command emergency contact numbers.
