COALITION of Civil Society Groups have advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to integrate state Governors if he is desirous of seeing an end to the nationwide protests that have grounded the country.
The Coalition of Civil Society Groups made this known in a media parley the groups had with journalists in Abuja the Federal Capital Territory FCT while appraising the impact of the protests through its National Coordinator and convener Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke and Secretary Ali Abacha.
The group urged the president to take decisive actions which will be appreciated by the people rather than rely on his speech which glaringly has not convinced the masses.
While urging President Bola Tinubu to engage the governors, the group specifically asked him to appoint the Rivers State governor Senibo Siminilaye Fubara to head the team that will engage the leaders of the protest in dialogue. It sited the proactive reaction of the Rivers State governor in addressing the protesters and the actions he has taken so far since the protesters hit the streets of Nigeria.
It said inorder to continue engaging Nigerians as regards the protests, the Coalition of Civil Society Groups will be organizing an international press conference on Sunday the 11th of August 2024 in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital. It said the Press conference will hopefully have an impact on the protests.
The group also urged the president to sack Ministers in his government that have not contributed anything meaningful stressing that it will soon come out with a comprehensive list of Ministers who have failed to impact on the people in the last one year they were appointed into office.
Specifically, the group urged the president to ensure that the prices of goods are reduced beginning with the price of petrol.
“We are calling on the president to restore back the subsidy regime and restructure his anti corruption architecture and put in place policies that will checkmate the politicians and lawmakers particularly the judiciary in country” the coalition stated.
