NEWLY appointed Nasarawa United Technical Adviser, Salisu Yusuf Dee Black, has revealed that he is on rescue mission in Lafia and that it is his firm believe that the Solid Miners will sail through at the end of the season.
The former Super Eagles handler gave the assurance after beating Remo Stars in his first task in a match day 26 NPFL encounter. Anas Yusuf’s 25th-minute goal was all Nasarawa United needed to scoop all three points off league leaders on Wednesday afternoon at the Lafia City Stadium. The striker’s 14th strike of the season.
“It’s a great result for us today, despite the tight schedules before this game. We only had two days to train because we needed to manage the fatigue,” Yusuf told journalists. “Within those few days, I tried to imprint my game plans into the players. We got our goal through a high press. I think the team has great potential to grow.
“We will work on our team cohesion so that the players will understand themselves better. We respect Remo Stars as the league leaders, but if you observed very well today, they couldn’t create any goal scoring opportunity throughout the game.
“I am so proud of the performance of the boys today against the league leaders. The mandate to me is to rescue the team from being relegated, and I believe that is achievable.”
The team will travel to Umuahia, Abia State, for a date with Abia Warriors on match-day 27, slated for Sunday, 2nd March 2025, before returning to host Sunshine Stars a week later in Lafia.
In a related development,Remo Stars head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede has stated that with what he saw of Nasarawa United on Wednesday, they do not deserve to be in the relegation zone.
In his post-match reactions, Ogunmodede explained that the hosts gave their best to deserve the three points, adding that his side didn’t create many chances in the game.
“We did our best in the game today, but the outcome wasn’t good enough for us. Nasarawa United needed the points more than us. They played very well today, and I am still surprised to see them where they are on the league table,” Ogunmodede said. “They gave their best and got what they worked for. We didn’t create so many chances; I think they deserved the win.”
