    2022: 47 Killed, 85 Raped, 2,069 Arrested In Kano

    THE Kano state Police Command has reported that a total of 47 people were killed in they year 2022 as far as their record goes.

    The Command made this known in a signed statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa made available to News Point Nigeria.

    The  statement reads in part: “At the beginning of the year, there were security challenges, including the threats of Kidnapping along the villages in Seventeen (17) frontline border LGAs of the State bordering Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa and Bauchi States, threats of Thuggery (Daba) and Drugs Abuse within the Eight (8) LGAs in Kano Metropolis and the threats of increase in domestic violence especially Rape in the State.”

    “In line with the directives and guidance of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR, the general security situation of Kano State was carefully assessed, critically analyzed and demographically studied.

    “The State was crime-mapped and an action plan was designed to effectively Police the State. The following strategies were incorporated into the Command’s action plan.”

    “Deepening Community Policing Engagements. Sustaining the Operation Restore Peace that is based on Rapid Response to Distress Calls. Intelligence-led and Visibility Policing. Use of Technology in Operations and Investigations. Synergy with sister security agencies. Massive public enlightenment and sensitization through the Radio, Television and Social Media.”

    From1st January 2022 to 30th December 2022, tremendous achievements were recorded as follows: 45 culpable homicide, 47 victims killed, 48 males prosecuted, nine females prosecuted, 85 rape cases recorded, 76 suspects prosecuted, 35 unnatural offences recorded, 38 suspects prosecuted, 20 kidnapped cases recorded, 120 males prosecuted.

    The Command also prosecuted five females, recorded 39 armed robbery cases, while 136 suspects were prosecuted.

    The PPRO  further summarised the Command’s modest achievements in 2022 to includ the arrest of: “One Hundred and Thirty-Six (136) Armed Robbery Suspects. One Hundred and Twenty-Five (125) Kidnapping Suspects. Sixty-One (61) Suspected Fraudsters.
    Eighty-Seven (87) Suspected Drug Dealers.

    ” Sixty-Six (66) Motor Vehicles Thieves.
    Twenty-Two (22) Tricycles Thieves.
    Ten (10) Motorcycle Thieves.
    Fourteen (14) Human Trafficking Suspects .Nine Hundred and Seventeen (917) Thugs (‘Yan Daba).

    ‘Rescued Fifteen (15) Kidnapping Victims. Twenty-Two (22) Human Trafficking Victims.

    ” Recovered Sixty-Two (62) Rifles, including Thirteen (13) AK-47s, Seven (7) Pistols, One (1) Pump Action, One (1) Micro Uzi, Twenty-Five (25) Locally Made Guns, Fifteen (15) Dane Guns and a large quantity of Ammunition and Cartridges.

    Fifty-Four (54) Tricycles.
    Twenty-Nine (29) Motorcycles.
    Five Hundred and Eighteen (518) Knives.

    “Forty-Nine (49) Clubs (Gora).
    vii. Two (2) Cartons, One Thousand and Eighty-Eight (1,088) Packets of suspected Tramadol.

    “Thirty-Three (33) Bags, One Thousand, Two Hundred and Thirty-Five (1,235) Parcels of Dried Leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp.
    ix. Twenty (20) Cartons, One Hundred and Eighty-Three (183) pieces of suspected Red Solution.

    “Four Hundred and Eighty-Eight (488) packets, One Thousand Two Hundred and Thirteen (1,213) Pieces of suspected Exol Tablets.
    xi. Seventy-Four (74) packets of Suck and Die.

    “Three Hundred and Ninety-Seven (397) Mobile Phones.
    xiii. Thirty-Nine (39) ATM Cards.
    xiv. Six (6) Laptop Computers.
    xv. Thirty (30) Motor Vehicles’ Batteries.
    xvi. Twenty-Seven (27) Plasma TV
    xvii. Nine (9) Ceiling Fans.
    xviii. One Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty-Two (1,252) Bundles of Women Wrappers, etc.”

    He appreciated the Kano State Government, the good people of Kano State, other security agencies, the Media, Members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Civil Liberty Organizations (CLOs), Special Constables, Vigilante Groups and our Community Policing Stakeholders for the prayers, support, encouragement and cooperation.

    Currently, with a geometric reduction in crime, and a stable and peaceful atmosphere in the State, the Command will continue to sustain the tempo of fighting all criminal activities in the State.
