NIGERIAN football has been thrown into fresh mourning following the death of the mother of Super Eagles winger, Samuel Chukwueze, deepening a period of grief within the national team family.
News Point Nigeria Sport reports that the heartbreaking news was confirmed on Thursday by the footballer’s brother, David Chukwueze, who announced the loss through a series of emotional posts on his Instagram page.
Struggling to come to terms with the tragedy, David wrote simply, “Can’t even post say RIP mom,” capturing the shock and pain surrounding the family’s loss.
In another post, he added, “My forever love just left me without saying goodbye. You didn’t even carry your grandchild,” a line that resonated widely with fans and followers who flooded the page with messages of condolence.
Samuel Chukwueze, one of Nigeria’s most recognisable attacking talents, is currently on loan from Italian giants AC Milan to English Premier League side Fulham, where he has been rebuilding momentum after a turbulent period with the national team.
The tragedy comes just days after Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi lost his father in a fatal road accident, compounding the emotional strain on the Nigerian football community and casting a sombre shadow over recent sporting achievements.
Chukwueze recently represented Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where he faced heavy criticism after missing a crucial penalty during the Super Eagles’ semi-final defeat to the host nation.
Despite the setback, the 26-year-old winger responded with resilience, silencing critics by scoring on his return to club football and rediscovering his form in England.
Since joining Fulham, Chukwueze has recorded three goals and three assists, earning praise for his renewed confidence, pace, and attacking sharpness.
News of his mother’s death has drawn an outpouring of sympathy from fans, teammates, football administrators, and fellow professionals across Nigeria and beyond, many of whom have taken to social media to offer prayers and words of comfort.
