Governor Yusuf Says APC Alignment Key To Accelerated Development In Kano

KANO State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has declared that his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) was driven by the need to strategically position Kano State at the centre of national governance in order to accelerate development.

The governor made this known while addressing a mammoth crowd at the 2026 Grand Rally held at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Monday.

In a statement sent to News Point Nigeria by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf explained that Kano, given its size, population and economic relevance, cannot afford to remain politically disconnected from the Federal Government.

Governor Yusuf emphasised that his defection to the APC was not motivated by personal ambition or political excitement, but by a sense of responsibility to ensure that Kano is better positioned to attract opportunities and deliver tangible benefits to its citizens.

“It is about placing Kano in a position where it can fully participate in national development and secure a better future for its people,” he stated.

According to him, alignment with the ruling party at the federal level will enable Kano State to engage more effectively with national institutions and maximise the benefits of federal policies and programmes.

The governor further noted that Kano must be an integral part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, stressing that the administration’s reforms require serious governance and diligent implementation.

“With the support of our great party and the cooperation of the Federal Government, Kano State is better positioned to move forward with confidence and stability,” Yusuf added.

He expressed gratitude to Vice President Kashim Shettima and governors of Jigawa State, Sokoto State, Kaduna State, Katsina State, Borno State, Yobe State, and Plateau State for honouring the occasion and demonstrating solidarity with his administration.

The National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, formally received the governor into the party and urged stakeholders to rally behind him in the interest of unity and progress.

Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Kano APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, ALGON Chairperson Hajiya Sa’adatu Yushau Soja, Hon. Alasan Ado Doguwa and several federal and state lawmakers, in their separate remarks, pledged 100 percent loyalty, support and cooperation to Governor Yusuf.

They assured him of their commitment to strengthening party unity and ensuring sustainable development in Kano State.

Governor Yusuf described the massive turnout at the rally as a clear demonstration of unity, strength and shared resolve among party leaders and stakeholders.

He noted that the presence of key political figures from across the country symbolised a collective determination to guarantee political stability and foster sustainable development in Kano.

For Governor Yusuf, the message was clear: Kano’s future, he believes, lies in strategic cooperation with the centre to unlock greater opportunities for growth and prosperity.
