THE Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the activation of comprehensive security measures across the state, in a renewed push to prevent and combat violent crimes.
In a press release sent to News Point Nigeria on Tuesday, the Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, said the move aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to strengthen internal security nationwide.
According to the statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the Command has significantly intensified intelligence-led policing, enhanced routine patrols, and strategically deployed personnel across all Local Government Areas of the state.
The police revealed that high-risk areas such as farmlands, forests, waterways, and major access routes are now under continuous surveillance, with coordinated day and night patrols aimed at deterring criminal activities.
As part of the expanded security architecture, special operations including intelligence-driven stop-and-search duties have been introduced at critical points across the state. These measures, the Command noted, are designed to intercept criminal elements and prevent potential security breaches.
In addition, tactical units and patrol teams have been repositioned to ensure maximum visibility and enable rapid response to emergencies, reinforcing the Command’s readiness to tackle threats as they arise.
The statement further highlighted strengthened collaboration with other security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The joint effort, according to the police, is intended to ensure seamless intelligence sharing and coordinated operations across the state.
Beyond enforcement, the Command said it has also intensified community engagement and sensitisation campaigns. Residents were urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious movements, and cooperate fully with security operatives.
Traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and community stakeholders were specifically called upon to support ongoing efforts by providing credible and timely information that could aid security operations.
To enhance emergency response, the Command released dedicated contact numbers for public use, assuring residents that all distress calls would be treated with urgency and confidentiality. Emergency Numbers: 08039213071, 08028916010, 08020913810, 09040000065 and 09169839215.
The Commissioner of Police also issued a stern warning to criminal elements, urging them to desist from unlawful activities or face swift and decisive consequences.
“The Command will not tolerate any act capable of threatening the peace and security of Akwa Ibom State,” the statement emphasised.
Residents were further advised to disregard unverified information and rely solely on official updates from the police and other authorised security agencies.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command stated that it remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property, pledging to sustain the intensified operations to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.
