POLICE and operatives of the Department of State Services have stepped into the investigation surrounding the death of nursing student, Andrew Amehson, as the bereaved family insisted that there would be “no justice, no burial” and vowed to resist any attempt to buy their silence.
News Point Nigeria reports that the development followed a visit by the Executive Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Ameh Williams, alongside the Divisional Police Officer and the DSS head in Olamaboro, to Nana College of Nursing Sciences and the family of the deceased.
During the visit, the council chairman confirmed that the homicide department had already commenced investigation into the incident in Okpo.
“I have spoken with the DPO and the Security Adviser to the Governor, Commander Duro Jerry Omodara (rtd). The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Bello, is aware and investigation is ongoing. The homicide department is already in Okpo,” the chairman stated.
He appealed for calm and assured the grieving family that justice would be served.
The chairman further disclosed that he had been in touch with the proprietor of Nana College of Nursing Sciences, Ibana Okpo, who he said was currently hospitalised due to illness.
According to him, the proprietor had agreed to make himself available for questioning immediately after being discharged from the hospital.
He also promised to revisit the family on neutral ground as investigations continue and commended the family for what he described as their peaceful conduct despite the painful circumstances.
The council chairman reassured them of his commitment to ensuring that justice prevails.
Meanwhile, emotions ran high when youths visited the family residence following a candlelight procession held in honour of the deceased student.
Speaking during the visit, Andrew’s elder brother, Solomon Aziko, appreciated members of the community for standing by the family but firmly rejected any financial inducement or settlement.
“Just like I’ve told everyone, our stand is one. We don’t have a problem. The family is not begging for anything. We are not hungry, we are not begging anyone,” Solomon declared.
“Nobody will come and intimidate us with money. All we want is for those who murdered my brother to be arrested and made to face the law and the consequences of their actions. We don’t want any interference.”
He further revealed that no official representative of the school had visited the family since the tragic incident occurred.
According to him, Barrister Dickson Itodoh, who reportedly visited the family, came in a personal capacity as a family friend and not as a representative of the institution as earlier alleged in some quarters.
“Even Barrister Dickson Itodoh, who came, is a family friend and not from the school as alleged,” he clarified.
Reaffirming the family’s position, Solomon insisted that the deceased would not be buried until those responsible for his death are arrested and prosecuted.
“Our stand is: No justice, no burial. If they can’t arrest those who killed my brother, they should return the body to the school,” he added.
Andrew’s elder sister, Wisdom Aziko, as well as their mother, also backed the family’s decision not to proceed with burial until justice is served.
Fighting back tears, the grieving mother demanded that those behind her son’s death be identified and brought to justice.
“Let them fish out those who murdered my son. That is what I want. If they do not do that, no burial at all,” she said emotionally.
Wisdom Aziko equally maintained that the family would not conduct burial rites for Andrew until arrests are made and prosecution begins.
Students’ Association Issues Ultimatum
Amid growing outrage over the incident, the National Association of Olamaboro Students (NAOS) issued a press statement giving authorities until 11:59 p.m. on May 3, 2026, to take what it described as “visible and concrete action” regarding the matter.
The association warned that failure to act could trigger lawful demonstrations by students and concerned youths.
As of press time, the Kogi State Police Command had yet to release an official statement on the incident.
However, sources confirmed that detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, alongside DSS operatives, had already been deployed to Okpo as part of ongoing investigations.
Andrew Amehson, a student of Grimad Nursing School, was allegedly beaten to death by security guards at Nana College of Nursing Sciences, Ibana Okpo, on Monday, April 28, 2026.
