THE Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has announced the appointment of four new committee chairmen following recent changes in the leadership structure of the Green Chamber.
News Point Nigeria reports that the appointments were unveiled during an emergency plenary session convened on Monday in Abuja, where the Speaker explained that the changes became necessary following the emergence of Fred Agbedi as Minority Leader, Abdulsamad Dasuki as Minority Whip, and Malu Soro as Deputy Minority Leader.
According to Tajudeen, the new appointments were made to fill vacancies created by the lawmakers who previously chaired the affected committees before assuming their new principal officer positions in the House.
As part of the reshuffle, Rep. Aliyu Madaki was appointed Chairman of the Committee on Special Duties, while Rep. Ali Isa was named Chairman of the Committee on Shippers Council.
The Speaker also announced the appointment of Rep. Pascal Abodike as Chairman of the Committee on Small and Medium Enterprises, while Rep. Kelechi Nwobu was appointed Chairman of the Committee on Hydrological Services.
Charging the newly appointed chairmen to justify the confidence reposed in them, Tajudeen urged them to deploy their legislative experience and commitment in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“The members who have been appointed are expected to assume their responsibilities with immediate effect,” the Speaker said.
“I urge them to bring their legislative experience and commitments to bear in the discharge of their respective mandates.”
Tajudeen further extended the goodwill of the House to the newly appointed committee heads, expressing confidence in their ability to make meaningful contributions to legislative activities.
“I extend the warm congratulations and best wishes of the House to all the appointed chairmen, and I look forward to their activities and impactful contributions to the House,” he added.
