OPERATIVES of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 36-year-old woman in Onitsha following open-source intelligence regarding a trending video depicting the alleged sexual abuse of a minor.
News Point Nigeria reports that the operation, which took place on the evening of September 10, 2026, resulted in the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine years, alongside the recovery of sex toys and other incriminating items allegedly related to the case.
The Command, in a statement on the development, said preliminary investigations were underway, adding that the spouse of the suspect was also being questioned.
“The suspect is currently in police custody as the Command intensifies its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and the possible involvement of other persons,” the Command stated.
It added: “The husband of the suspect is also undergoing interrogation to determine whether he has any connection with the alleged offence.”
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, psc, expressed deep concern over the alleged act, describing it as unacceptable given the vulnerability and exploitation of the children involved.
Ama directed a thorough investigation into the matter and ordered that the rescued minors be provided with immediate protection and welfare support.
“To this end, the Command notes that beyond the investigation and prosecution, its priority is the safety, dignity and wellbeing of the rescued children.
“The Command will work with the appropriate child-protection and relevant support agencies to ensure that the victims receive the necessary care, protection, counselling and other support required for their recovery.
“Their identities and privacy will be protected throughout the process, and they will be treated with compassion and sensitivity,” it added.
The Police Command also commended vigilante operatives in the area, as well as bloggers and residents who provided information that assisted the investigation and ultimately led to the arrest of the suspect.
