THE Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria has voted to increase the benchmark interest rate by 50 basis points to 18. per cent, News Point Nigeria understands. PSV Eindhoven have banned a supporter from their stadium for 40 years after he was found guilty of attacking Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic during a Europa League match. The 20-year-old man, who was already serving a national stadium ban and should not have been in the ground, was given a three-month prison sentence. CHINA’s President Xi Jinping says the killers of nine Chinese goldmine workers in the Central African Republic (CAR) must be “severely” punished. Two Chinese workers were also wounded when gunmen stormed a mining site near the central town of Bambari on Sunday. The local mayor blamed a rebel group for the killings. KENYAN police have tear-gassed opposition leader Raila Odinga’s convoy in the capital, Nairobi, as he spearheaded the biggest protest against President William Ruto’s government since it took office. AT least 12 people have died after a powerful earthquake struck the southern coast of Ecuador. Buildings have been damaged in several cities following the 6.7 magnitude quake, which hit at around midday local time (17:00 GMT).
