Ganduje Meets Senator Gaya Days After APC Chairman’s Visit Amid Fresh Political Realignments

FORMER National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has paid a courtesy visit to Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya at his residence in Abuja, in what appears to be part of renewed political consultations and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

    ABDULSAMAD

News Point Nigeria reports that Ganduje’s visit came just days after the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, also visited the former Kano South senator at the same residence, underscoring the ruling party’s sustained engagement with influential political figures in Kano State.

According to sources familiar with Ganduje’s meeting, discussions centred on political alignment, party unity and the future of Kano State.

The former APC national chairman is understood to have formally invited Senator Gaya to return to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the party’s political base in Kano.

Both leaders also discussed issues relating to the development and progress of Kano State, with the meeting reportedly taking place in a cordial atmosphere.

Observers noted that the warm reception accorded Ganduje and the handshake exchanged between the two veteran Kano politicians reflected renewed political engagement and consultations within the APC family.

A few days earlier, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, had similarly visited Senator Gaya as part of his ongoing engagements with opposition political figures in Kano State.

Senator Gaya, a founding member of the APC who later defected from the party, received the APC chairman at his Abuja residence.

In a post shared on his verified Facebook page after the meeting, Professor Nentawe described the discussions as warm and constructive, focusing on unity and the continued progress of Kano State.

He said both leaders agreed on the importance of dialogue, peaceful coexistence and placing the interests of the people above political differences.

“Democracy is strengthened not by division, but by our collective resolve to put the interests of the people above political differences,” Nentawe stated.

The APC chairman’s visit came shortly after he held separate meetings with Senator Rufai Hanga, the only Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senator from Kano State and a close political associate of the party’s Vice-Presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Those meetings were also presented as efforts aimed at promoting peace, dialogue and unity. However, political observers interpreted the engagements as part of the APC’s broader strategy to reach out to opposition leaders and consolidate support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Senator Gaya, who represented Kano South in the Senate for several years, left the APC a few months ago and joined Kwankwaso’s political movement in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before subsequently moving with him to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The separate visits by Professor Nentawe Yilwatda and Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje have further fuelled speculations about ongoing political realignments in Kano State as major parties intensify consultations and reposition ahead of the next general elections.
