FORMER Deputy Governor, Hassan Nasiha, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Zamfara Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 General Elections, pledging to prioritise security, youth employment and accessible leadership if elected.
The declaration was contained in a statement sent to News Point Nigeria by his Special Assistant on Media, Ahmed Lawal Gusau on Satruday, where the former senator said his decision to seek re-election was informed by the “critical challenges confronting” Zamfara Central at what he described as a defining moment for the district.
In a letter addressed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, party stakeholders, elders and constituents across Gusau, Bungudu, Tsafe and Maru Local Government Areas, Nasiha lamented the worsening insecurity and socio-economic difficulties facing the people.
“Our home is under siege,” Senator Nasiha stated.
“Banditry has displaced communities in Tsafe, Maru, Bungudu and Gusau, shut down farms, and stolen the peace of our people. Our youths are unskilled and jobless, making them vulnerable to criminal recruitment. And too many constituents rightly complain that their leaders have become inaccessible. I hear that pain, and I accept that responsibility.”
The former senator highlighted some of the interventions he undertook during his previous time in office, including sponsoring motions on the escalating insecurity in Zamfara Central and facilitating increased security deployments to affected communities.
He also said he trained youths in agriculture, ICT and vocational trades across the four local government areas, while attracting federal relief materials for internally displaced persons in several communities.
According to him, he also held constituency town hall meetings, although he acknowledged that more efforts were needed to bridge the gap between political leaders and the people.
“We must do more to bridge the gap between leaders and the led,” he stated.
Nasiha further unveiled key priorities he intends to pursue if re-elected to the Senate in 2027.
Under what he described as “Security First,” the former senator pledged to push for the establishment of a permanent Military Forward Operating Base in Zamfara Central as well as legislative backing for community-based security architecture.
On youth empowerment, he promised to establish a Zamfara Central Skills and Innovation Hub, alongside satellite centres across the four local government areas in the senatorial district, aimed at tackling unemployment and equipping youths with practical skills.
He also pledged to sustain what he described as his “Open Door policy” through the Gusau Constituency Office and quarterly ward-level engagements across the local governments.
“My phone number remains public. You elected me; you must be able to reach me,” he said.
As part of his renewed political engagement, Nasiha announced plans to embark on a Listening Tour across all four local government areas in Zamfara Central.
“I am coming to hear your anger, your ideas, and your conditions for support,” he said.
“Zamfara Central is too wounded for experiments. It needs experience, federal access, and a Senator who sleeps and wakes thinking of home.”
The former senator also called for unity among stakeholders across the district, saying the task of rebuilding the area should be seen as a collective responsibility.
“This is not my ambition alone. It is our collective mission to reclaim our land, restore our dignity, and secure our future,” he added.
Zamfara Central Senatorial District comprises Gusau, Bungudu, Tsafe and Maru Local Government Areas.
Nasiha was first elected into the Senate in 2007 and was later re-elected in 2019.
