PROTESTERS took to the streets of Osogbo, Osun State, on Tuesday, demanding immediate action from the government.
The demonstration, organized by the Coalition of Concerned Nigeria Citizens and supported by members of the Take it Back Movement, drew a significant security presence.
The protest kicked off at Freedom Park, with protesters chanting anti-government songs and calling for an end to the economic hardship that has left many Nigerians struggling.
The march was closely monitored by a large contingent of security operatives, including personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and the Nigeria Correctional Service.
The security agencies maintained a heavy presence, shadowing the protesters in a long convoy as they moved towards the Oke Fia area of the state capital.
Addressing journalists, the coordinator of the protest, Adetunji Ajala, lamented the government’s failure to address the needs of the masses. “It is sad that those in power have no regard for the suffering of the people.
They waste our resources and implement policies that worsen the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians,” Ajala said.
“Enough is enough. We will continue to protest until the government listens to the voice of the people,” he added.
Despite the tension surrounding the protest, business activities across Osogbo went on largely undisturbed, with shop owners opening for business as usual.
However, the protest caused a traffic gridlock around the Old Garage area as the protesters began their march through the streets.
The protest was peaceful, but the protesters vowed to continue their actions until the government addresses their grievances.
