MINISTER of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has reiterated the urgent need for economic and social investments in women’s empowerment.
The minister, who stated this, at the weekend, during a symposium to mark the 2025 International Women’s Day organised by Nigerian Exchange Group Plc., in collaboration with Central Securities Clearing System Plc., under the theme, ‘Accelerate Action for all Women: Rights, Equality, and Empowerment in Lagos’, said that investing in women’s empowerment would ultimately drive national development.
In her keynote address, she highlighted the economic and social benefits of gender inclusivity, stating that providing women with education, vocational training, and financial access is essential for sustainable growth.
“The time for rhetoric is over. It is time for action. Investments in education, vocational training, and capital access are crucial for sustainable growth,” she stated.
Group Chairman of NGX Group, Dr Umaru Kwairanga, who reiterated the group’s dedication to fostering gender diversity, said that inclusive policies and deliberate interventions are crucial for empowering women in financial markets and corporate leadership.
Also speaking, the Director General of the SEC, Dr Emomotimi Agama, emphasised the importance of regulatory reforms that promote gender-balanced leadership.
He urged policymakers and corporate stakeholders to implement strategies that encourage female representation across governance structures.
Group Managing Director and CEO of NGX Group, as well as Chairman of CSCS, Temi Popoola, underscored the significance of accelerating action beyond discussions. He assured stakeholders of NGX’s commitment to empower women in business, finance, and leadership.
In a related vein, a power generation company (Genco), Egbin Power, has underscored the invaluable contributions of women in the power sector and across facets of the society, stressing the need for increased participation to foster a sustainable future.
The Genco stated this during an event organised to honour women in the company and across the world, in commemoration of International Women’s Day 2025. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the firm, Mokhtar Bounour, reiterated the company’s commitment to fostering gender equality, diversity, and inclusion, while also urging women to remain bold in the pursuit of excellence and be confident in their various endeavours.
Also, Managing Director of MML Consulting Ltd., Ijeoma Nwakuche, noted that women still need equality and equity in the world today, hence the need to reinforce the call for them to rise up, be seen, be heard, and be recognised for the things they deserve, particularly in their work places.
