FORMER Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has been arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
A source within the Department of State Services (DSS) confirmed to News Point Nigeria that the ex-minister was arrested on Wednesday upon arrival at the airport.
The source further disclosed that Nnaji has since been handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for further interrogation.
The arrest comes amid an ongoing ICPC investigation into allegations of certificate forgery against the former minister.
In June, the ICPC secured a warrant of arrest against Nnaji. An online newspaper had reported that the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the order following an ex parte motion filed by the commission in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1160/2026.
ICPC counsel, Osuobeni Akponimisingha, told the court that the application was necessitated by Nnaji’s repeated refusal to honour invitations extended to him for investigation into the allegations.
He urged the court to grant permission for the commission to declare Nnaji wanted in national newspapers, on social media platforms, and through other media channels, for “failing to honour the commission’s invitations for investigative activities.”
Nnaji had earlier resigned from office in October 2025 following allegations that he forged his academic certificates.
Before his resignation, he had come under intense scrutiny over claims that the credentials submitted to President Bola Tinubu and the Senate during his ministerial screening were falsified.
An investigation by the newspaper alleged that Nnaji did not complete his university education, and that both his claimed bachelor’s degree and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate—presented to the Presidency, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the DSS, and the Senate—were forged.
INnaji had also been falsefully parading himself as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State for the 2027 elections.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the ICPC nor Nnaji had issued an official statement on the arrest.
