GOVERNOR Uba Sani has pledged that the Kaduna State Government will take full responsibility for the welfare of the family of the late Ummulkhairi Usman Aliyu, who was brutally murdered by a mob in Maraban Jos, a community along the Kaduna–Zaria expressway.
News Point Nigeria reports that the governor made the commitment on Saturday during a condolence visit to the bereaved family, where he assured that the state would cater for the upkeep of the deceased’s husband and four children, including sponsoring the children’s education.
Penultimate Sunday, tragedy struck when Malama Ummulkhairi, an Islamic school teacher, was lynched and her body set ablaze by a mob at Maraban Jos in Igabi Local Government Area after false accusations that she attempted to kidnap children.
Speaking after commiserating with the family, Governor Uba Sani strongly condemned the mob action and vowed that those responsible would face the full wrath of the law, insisting that justice would be served without compromise.
The governor noted that he was outside the state on official duty when the incident occurred but had immediately directed senior government officials to visit and console the grieving family.
He further disclosed that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, had already commenced extensive investigations into the incident.
“I’m also working with the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the DSS, as well as all relevant security agencies in Kaduna State to get to the root of the matter,” he said.
According to him, preliminary investigations have already led to significant progress.
“As we are speaking, about 41 persons have been charged with culpable homicide. About 41 went through investigation also; that’s 82. Thirty suspects have also been charged for unlawful assembly,” he disclosed.
Governor Uba Sani reaffirmed that all individuals involved in the killing, regardless of their status or number, would face the law, stressing that the action would serve as a deterrent against mob justice and lawlessness.
He also acknowledged the efforts of security agencies but urged a deeper probe into the conduct of some officers during the incident, particularly the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Maraban Jos, to determine whether there was any complicity or operational failure.
