THE Chairman of the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Barr. Mutari Shagari, on Monday held a high-level meeting with the President of the World Maritime University (WMU), Professor Maximo Q. Mejia Jr., on the sidelines of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council meeting in London.
News Point Nigeria reports that the discussions centred on strengthening collaboration between Nigeria and the World Maritime University in advancing maritime education, capacity building and the development of the country’s blue economy.
The engagement comes as Nigeria continues to deepen its participation in global maritime governance while pursuing reforms aimed at improving inland waterways transportation, enhancing maritime safety and strengthening human capital development in the maritime sector.
Established by the International Maritime Organization, the World Maritime University is a globally recognised institution for postgraduate education and research in the maritime sector, providing advanced training for maritime professionals from across the world.
The meeting also underscored Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging international partnerships to enhance maritime administration, promote sustainable shipping and build the capacity of professionals across the country’s maritime industry.
