TWO people have been confirmed dead, while five others were rescued alive after a two-storey building collapsed at Mega Mall Estate, Mobile Road, Inikpa, Ikota, Ajah, Lagos State.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that the building, which was under construction, collapsed on Tuesday. According to NEMA’s Southwest Coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye, the immediate cause of the incident is unknown, and further investigations will be conducted.
“So far, the bodies of an adult male and a young boy have been recovered, while five adult males with serious injuries have been rescued and taken to the hospital. Information suggests that more people may still be trapped under the rubble,” Farinloye said.
In a separate incident, two people, including an adult male, were confirmed dead, while four others sustained serious injuries when another two-storey building collapsed at Northern Vulture Estate, Chevron Drive, Lekki, Lagos.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) stated that the cause of the collapse remains unknown, pending further investigation.The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said: “Unfortunately, a young boy, about 15 years old, and an adult male were recovered and confirmed dead.
“Their remains were subsequently bagged by emergency responders and handed over to officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).
“Six victims were also rescued alive and attended to by the medical team. The collapsed building has been completely demolished and brought to ground zero using the agency’s sophisticated heavy-duty equipment.”
