GOVERNOR Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has described the late High Commissioner of Nigeria to South Africa, Alhaji Shehu Malami (Sarkin Sudan of Wurno) [1937-2022] as a stateman, philanthropist and industrialist of repute.
The Governor who was receiving former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Audu Ogbeh, who came to pay him a condolence visit on Monday, said the late Sokoto prince touched many lives while he was alive.
“He was virtually a friend to all: the elderly and the younger ones,” Tambuwal emphasized, while noting that although he has passed on, he would not be so much missed because of the positively impactful life he lived.
He added that the late Shehu Malami lived a good and fulfilled life; during which time he also offered good counsel to his (Tambuwal) administration on matters of state and even personal issues.
Praying for the repose of the soul of Malami, Governor Tambuwal asserted his commitment to matters of leadership and values as epitomized by the AREWA Consultative Forum (ACF), of which Ogbeh is the Chairman, stressing that the pressure group focus on ideals of developing the socio economic well-being of the people of northern Nigeria, is something to identify with and be proud of.
In his remarks earlier, former Minister of Agriculture, Mr Audu Ogbeh, said he was in Sokoto with some officials of the ACF to condole Governor Tambuwal and people of Sokoto state over the demise of Malami.
According to him, the death of the monarch and diplomat touches him personally and the ACF as an organization.
He noted that the deceased, who he also described as “a man of integrity,” was very committed and concerned about the development of the North.
