Godswill Akpabio: A Compelling Case For A South-South Senate President In Nigeria

    BORNO PATRIOTS

GODSWILL Akpabio, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and currently a Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District, has emerged as a leading contender for the position of Senate President in Nigeria. Despite facing allegations of corruption, Akpabio’s impeccable record of service and leadership makes him a compelling choice for the position.

In his eight years as Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Akpabio transformed the state from a backwater to a major economic hub, attracting foreign investments and creating job opportunities for the people. His administration also invested heavily in infrastructure development, building roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure that have continued to benefit the people of the state.

Akpabio’s leadership style is also noteworthy. He is a visionary leader who is not afraid to take bold decisions in the interest of his people. He is known for his ability to mobilize resources and build consensus among stakeholders, a skill that will be invaluable in leading the Senate.

While it is true that Akpabio has faced corruption allegations, it is important to note that he has not been convicted of any wrongdoing. In Nigeria, corruption allegations are often used as a political tool to discredit opponents, and it is not uncommon for innocent individuals to be falsely accused of corruption. Therefore, it would be unfair to disqualify Akpabio from running for the position of Senate President based on unproven allegations.

Furthermore, Akpabio’s experience and leadership qualities make him uniquely qualified to lead the Senate at this critical time in Nigeria’s history. The country is facing numerous challenges, including insecurity, economic instability, and political polarization. It is imperative that the Senate is led by a competent and visionary leader who can provide the kind of leadership that Nigeria needs at this time.

Godswill Akpabio’s experience and leadership qualities extend beyond his tenure as Governor of Akwa Ibom State. He also served as the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, where he oversaw the development of the Niger Delta region, which is known for its vast oil and gas resources.

During his tenure as Minister, Akpabio initiated several projects aimed at improving the living standards of the people of the Niger Delta region. He also worked to strengthen the relationship between the federal government and the people of the region, which had been strained for many years due to neglect and marginalization.

Akpabio’s loyalty to his political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), is also noteworthy. Despite being a former Governor of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he defected to the APC in 2018, citing the need to work with President Muhammadu Buhari to bring about positive change in the country. Since then, he has been a vocal supporter of the APC and has played a key role in the party’s activities.

Nigerian TAX Reform - Federal Goverment

Akpabio’s role as an opposition Senator has also been impactful. As a member of the opposition party in the Senate, he has provided a strong voice for the people of his constituency and has worked to hold the government accountable for its actions. He has also initiated several bills aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians, including a bill for the establishment of the Maritime University of Nigeria.

In conclusion, Godswill Akpabio’s experience, leadership qualities, loyalty, and role as an opposition Senator make him a strong candidate for the position of Senate President in Nigeria. His track record of service to the people of Akwa Ibom State and the Niger Delta region, coupled with his ability to build consensus and mobilize resources, make him well-suited for the position. The Senate should elect a leader who can effectively lead the Senate and work towards the best interest of the country, and Godswill Akpabio’s credentials and track record make him a compelling choice for the position.
