ALL is set to receive golden boy, John Ebuka, one of the anchor legs that won a gold medal in Men’s 4×100m Relay at the just concluded African Junior Athletics Championship in Zambia.
According to a press statement made available to journalists signed by Gombe Athletes Association Media Office on Friday, records have shown that Ebuka’s feat was the first time an athlete from the state would bring home such medal.
The statement added that, “Gombe wants to appreciate Ebuka and to encourage other Athletes to tour their best in training and work hard in future competitions.
“Ebuka has made us all proud and for the first time, we at Gombe AthIetics Association will celebrate him to spur others to action at different levels”.
The Chairman, Gombe State AthIetics Association Hon. Dr. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe has approved fa befitting reception for the U-20 lad, who just succeeded in his first international competition in Zambia.
The statement did not reveal how elaborate Ebuka’s reception will be, however, according to sources the reception would be an eye-catching one befitting a hero that would further convey how grateful and happy GAA feels.
Recall that, the GAA chairman pledged a complete overhaul of the association after he resumed office nine months ago, such feat is seen by many as an attestation to the working pledge.
Gara Gombe started by signing five AthIetes in different events, more importantly in the sprint and middle distance and Ebuka John was one of such signings.
He also organised train the trainers seminar in Gombe for all strata of officials which included NAATO, Coaches, Secretariat officers and the media.
He had complained laudly about the poor performance level of Gombe State Athletes at previous national and local competitions and assured that efforts would be made to improve the performance.
Ebuka’s reception, the report stated will announce the seriousness of the Association on Athletes’ welfare and well being. No date has been fixed for the reception yet.
