FORMER Super Eagles gaffer, Sunday Oliseh, says the staggering financial terms surrounding Victor Osimhen’s clause stopped big European clubs from signing the Nigerian international.
In a post shared on X on Sunday, the FIFA Instructor revealed that the Super Eagles striker cost Galatasaray a staggering €187m and not £75m as widely believed by many.
According to Oliseh, while many concentrated on Napoli’s €75 million asking price for Victor Osimhen, the true cost was much higher due to additional commitments.
Oliseh highlighted that the total package includes the €75 million transfer fee, a 10% resale clause for Napoli, and Osimhen’s salary demands of €15 million net per year.
”Let’s get one thing very clear, for the fans, football is passion and love, but for all the actors who are involved in football, it is business.
“Be the coaches, managers, players and the club, so at the end of the day, they are professionals, and there is a lot of money at stake.
“The false impression that people have been given is that Victor Osimhen was purchased for £75m, but the actual price at which Osimhen was purchased is €187m.
“The real price for acquiring and maintaining Osimhen is €187m, ” Oliseh stated, clarifying how the striker’s wages alone would cost approximately €112 million over a four-year contract period.
“The second part – the wages of Osimhen. It’s at €15m net, that’s €28m a year. If you multiply it by four, you are coming to €112million. This has been the major problem for clubs trying to acquire Osimhen, ” he added.
Oliseh’s explanation clarifies why Manchester United and Chelsea, despite interest, could not meet Napoli’s valuation for the 26-year-old striker.
Osimhen’s prolonged transfer saga strained his relationship with Napoli.
