THE Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has inaugurated a new executive committee to steer the affairs of the association for the next term, with veteran journalist and publisher, Danlami Nmodu, mni, emerging as President after a keenly contested election held in Lagos.
News Point Nigeria reports that Nmodu, publisher of Newsdiary Online and a long-standing member of the Guild, succeeds Dr. Maureen Chigbo, publisher of RealNews Magazine, who served as GOCOP President until the expiration of her tenure.
The new executive committee also includes Olumide Iyanda as Deputy President, Sufuyan Ojeifo as General Secretary, Akeem Oyetunji as Deputy General Secretary, Ngozi Onyeakusi as Treasurer, Moses Ebosele as Financial Secretary, and Kemi Yesufu as Publicity Secretary.
The election, which was conducted during GOCOP’s 2025 Annual General Meeting and Congress, saw a transparent and credible voting process both physically and electronically.
Chairman of the GOCOP Electoral Committee, Yusuf Ozi-Usman, while announcing the results, disclosed that out of 120 registered members as of October 8, 114 were qualified to vote and be voted for in accordance with the Guild’s constitution.
He explained that 80 members attended the congress in person, with 71 voting physically and 9 participating via e-voting.
At the end of the process, Danlami Nmodu polled 56 votes to defeat his sole challenger, Segun Adeleye, in the only contested position of the day. Other officers were returned unopposed.
In his acceptance speech, Nmodu expressed deep appreciation to GOCOP members for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the respected body of online publishers.
“I take the responsibility of this office very seriously. Our members will always come first,” Nmodu said. “I pledge to work harmoniously with my colleagues in the executive and with all members to take GOCOP to a higher level of growth and relevance within the Nigerian media ecosystem.”
He assured members of his administration’s commitment to expanding human capital development and business opportunities for online publishers, while consolidating on the achievements recorded under the leadership of his predecessor.
The newly inaugurated president commended Dr. Maureen Chigbo and her team for their service and for advancing the Guild’s image as a credible voice for professional and ethical online journalism in Nigeria.
GOCOP, established in 2016, is an umbrella body of verified corporate online publishers committed to promoting ethical standards, professionalism, and responsible digital journalism across the country.
