THE African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced that it has successfully uploaded the names and particulars of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal ahead of the 2027 general election.
News Point Nigeria reports that the development was disclosed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday night.
“We are pleased to announce that we have successfully uploaded the names and particulars of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar (GCON), and our vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi (CON), to the nomination portal of INEC,” the statement read.
Abdullahi described the submission as another significant milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general election.
He said the move reflects the ADC’s commitment to offering Nigerians “a credible alternative built on competence, unity, and national renewal.”
Atiku emerged as the ADC’s presidential candidate on May 27, after winning the party’s primary election.
The former vice-president secured 1,846,370 votes to defeat two other contenders — Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, former Managing Director of the defunct FSB International Bank, and Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State.
Amaechi polled 504,117 votes, while Hayatu-Deen garnered 177,120 votes.
Speaking after receiving the ADC flag as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Atiku called on Hayatu-Deen and Amaechi to close ranks with him.
He urged both men to “close ranks and join me in the fight to rescue Nigeria’s democracy,” adding that there was “no winner and no vanquished” in the contest.
On June 16, the opposition party officially announced Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate.
In a statement issued at the time, Abdullahi said the ADC’s national leadership selected Amaechi after “extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, and representatives of all geopolitical zones.”
He added that Amaechi, whom he described as one of Nigeria’s “most experienced and respected political leaders,” enjoys “widespread support from party members across the federation.”
