THE All Progressives Congress in Zamfara State has concluded plans to host Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the formal reception of Governor Dauda Lawal into the ruling party.
News Point Nigeria reports that the development was disclosed on Saturday by the state APC Chairman, Tukur Danfulani Maikatako, during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Gusau.
Maikatako said the Vice President, alongside key figures in the national leadership of the party, would be in the state next Tuesday to formally receive Governor Lawal, whose recent defection has stirred political conversations across the state.
Expressing satisfaction with the governor’s return, the APC chairman described Zamfara as a traditional stronghold of the party, noting that Lawal had previously been a committed member before his earlier political move.
“We all know that Zamfara has long been one of the APC’s stronghold states, where the defected Governor was once a bona fide member,” Maikatako said.
“Now that he has decided to return home, having been satisfied that the APC remains his second choice after the one he left for obvious reasons.”
He called on party members across the state’s 147 wards and 14 local government areas to turn out in large numbers to welcome the Vice President and celebrate the governor’s return, describing the visit as a strategic move to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“As Chairman of the APC, I urge all our esteemed members across the 147 wards of the 14 local government areas in the state to come out en masse to honour the presidential visit, which is meant to strengthen and boost the popularity of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he added.
Maikatako also used the opportunity to caution against internal divisions, urging members to set aside factional differences and work collectively toward the party’s success.
“I also call on you to forget factionalism in the party and remain united. We are all politically one family that has many things in common, especially in our goal of making Zamfara and Nigeria great again,” he said.
In a similar vein, a former state APC Chairman, Lawal M. Liman, appealed to party loyalists to mobilise support across their respective wards and local government areas.
He emphasised that the APC should be seen as a united platform committed to shared political goals and the overall development of the state and the country.
