FORMER Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Services, Dr. Bala Wunti, has formally declared his intention to contest in the 2027 Bauchi State gubernatorial election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
News Point Nigeria reports that Wunti made his declaration during a courtesy visit to the Bauchi Local Government chapter of the APC at the party’s secretariat.
In a press release issued by the Chief Communication Officer of the Bala Wunti Support Organisation, Abubakar Al-Sadique, the decision was described as one driven not by personal ambition, but by mounting pressure and overwhelming calls from citizens, stakeholders, and supporters across the state.
Wunti was quoted as saying: “Allah knows I only accepted to contest because of the pressure mounted on me to help rescue the future of our unemployed youth and safeguard the next generation.”
He also used the occasion to congratulate the newly inaugurated leadership of the APC in Bauchi Local Government Area, assuring members of his loyalty to the party.
He pledged to run an inclusive administration if elected, with priority to sustainable development across the state and equal opportunities for all citizens.
Similarly, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, resigned from his position earlier in the week, fueling speculations that he may also join the race under the APC platform.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Bala Wunti Movement, Yahaya Mohammed Miya, introduced the aspirant to party stakeholders, noting that the visit was aimed at strengthening ties and promoting unity within the party.
In his remarks, the APC Chairman of Bauchi Local Government, Alhaji Biyali, described Dr Wunti as a distinguished son of the state with a strong record in mentorship and community development.
“His contributions have shaped individuals capable of occupying top leadership positions, including that of governor,” he said.
