A FRESH political development is unfolding in Kaduna State as former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Isa Mohammed Ashiru, has announced plans to formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
News Point Nigeria reports that Ashiru revealed that his official registration with the ADC will take place on Sunday, April 5, 2026, in Kudan Ward, located within Kudan Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement shared via his social media platform, the former PDP flagbearer confirmed the timing and venue of the event, describing the move as a significant step in his political journey.
“I, Right Honourable Isa Mohammed Ashiru, will formally register with my new party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Sunday, 5th April 2026 at 11:00 AM, Insha Allah. Venue: Kudan Ward, Kudan Local Government Area,” he wrote.
He added that the decision reflects his continued commitment to the development of his constituents and the broader public.
“I look forward to this significant step as we continue to work for the progress and development of our people. #AriseAndShine.”
Ashiru’s move comes shortly after his resignation from the PDP, a party under which he previously contested for the governorship of Kaduna State. While he did not elaborate extensively on the reasons for his departure, political observers suggest the decision may be linked to internal party dynamics and shifting alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defection is expected to have ripple effects across Kaduna’s political landscape, particularly as the ADC seeks to strengthen its presence and position itself as a viable alternative to Nigeria’s dominant parties.
His move also reflects a broader trend of political realignments within Nigeria, as politicians reposition themselves in anticipation of future electoral contests.
