KADUNA State took a significant step toward strengthening national stability and grassroots governance on Thursday, April 16, 2026, as traditional rulers across the state adopted a landmark peace communication framework at a high-level forum held ahead of the Nigeria Public Relations Week (NPRW) 2026.
News Point Nigeria reports that the forum, themed “The Kaduna Peace Model: Traditional Leadership and National Stability,” was convened by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in partnership with the Kaduna State Government, culminating in a strategic agreement aimed at promoting peace, enhancing governance, and advancing food security across communities.
Held at the General Hassan Usman Katsina Government House Banquet Hall in Kaduna, the event brought together thirty-five traditional rulers drawn from the twenty-three Local Government Areas of the state, alongside senior government officials and communication professionals.
Deliberations at the forum centred on the pivotal role of traditional institutions in sustaining peace, fostering inclusive governance, and strengthening social cohesion at the grassroots level.
Representing the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to peace, security, and development, while also commending the NIPR for its strategic contributions to public communication and nation-building.
In his remarks, the Emir of Zazzau and Chairman of the Kaduna State Council of Traditional Rulers underscored the enduring relevance of traditional institutions as stabilising forces within society, advocating for greater constitutional recognition for traditional rulers and the nationwide adoption of the Kaduna Peace Model.
Delivering the keynote address, the Emir of Birnin Gwari, who is also a Fellow of the NIPR, highlighted the critical role of traditional rulers as trusted communication anchors, noting their unique capacity in conflict mediation, early warning intelligence, and effective community engagement.
He further called for stronger institutional integration of traditional leadership within formal governance frameworks to enhance peacebuilding and crisis management efforts.
A major highlight of the forum was the conferment of the prestigious title of Royal Ambassador of the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) Abuja 2026 on the Emir of Zazzau, in recognition of his contributions to peacebuilding and communication.
Providing an overview of the Kaduna Peace Model, the Commissioner for Information and Culture explained that the strategy, anchored on community engagement, non-kinetic approaches, and intelligence-led systems, has significantly reduced conflict, boosted investor confidence, and strengthened public safety across the state.
Following extensive deliberations, participants adopted a comprehensive set of resolutions collectively known as the Kaduna Declaration on Peace Communication for Community Harmony and Development.
Key components of the declaration include the recognition of traditional rulers as Peace Communication Anchors, the strengthening of early warning and response systems, and sustained support for government peace and security initiatives.
The resolutions also emphasised the promotion of peace as a critical foundation for food security and economic growth, as well as enhanced collaboration between traditional institutions, communication professionals, and the media.
Participants further endorsed the adoption of the Kaduna Peace Model as a national template for conflict resolution and community-based governance.
In addition, the forum called for increased institutional support for traditional rulers, the restoration of grassroots administrative structures, and the establishment of a National Traditional Rulers Forum for Strategic Communications.
The NIPR noted that the outcomes of the engagement would directly feed into deliberations at the upcoming NPRW 2026, where issues of food security, governance, and strategic communication are expected to dominate discussions.
The forum concluded with a strong consensus that sustainable peace and national development can best be achieved through deliberate collaboration among government, traditional institutions, communication professionals, and citizens.
The communiqué was endorsed by the Publicity Sub-Committee Team of the National Planning Committee for Nigeria Public Relations Week (NPRW) 2026, marking a significant milestone in the build-up to the national event.
