BAYO Onanuga, Senior Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has taunted former Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, saying his party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has no plans for Nigeria.
In a statement sent to News Point Nigeria on Saturday, Onanuga described the NDC as “a camp for the politically displaced and desperate.”
His remarks come amid growing momentum around the party following the recent defection of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, from the African Democratic Congress to the NDC.
The presidential aide argued that the NDC was not different from the ADC, insisting that the party lacked a distinct vision for the governance of Nigeria.
“Like ADC, the NDC has no plan for Nigeria yet,” Onanuga said.
According to him, out of curiosity, he had twice searched the NDC website in recent days to determine whether the party possessed “a markedly different vision for the governance of Nigeria,” one better than President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Onanuga, however, said he was disappointed after attempting to download the party’s manifesto from its website.
“‘No document found’ was the response I got each time I tried to download the manifesto,” Tinubu’s aide stated.
He expressed concern that “the party whose national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, said would wage an ideological battle in the 2027 poll has not uploaded any manifesto since it was court-registered in February.”
The presidential spokesman further stated that what the NDC currently displays on its website are six policy nuggets described as pillars.
According to him, the ideas do not read like concrete pillars of governance but instead “sound more like the platitudes the party’s newest catch, Peter Obi, has bombarded the nation with in the last six years.”
Despite his criticism, Onanuga said he still looks forward to seeing the NDC’s vision and mission for Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
