A FULANI socio-cultural group operating under the umbrella of the Concerned Amalgamated Fulani Association has cautioned the Plateau State Government against a recently issued shoot-on-sight directive targeting individuals accused of destroying farmlands across the state.
News Point Nigeria reports that the warning followed remarks reportedly made by Caleb Mutfwang, Governor of Plateau State, during a condolence visit to Barkin Ladi Local Government Area after renewed attacks and violence in parts of the state.
According to reports, Governor Mutfwang directed security agencies to take decisive action against anyone found vandalising farmlands amid worsening insecurity that has reportedly claimed more than 50 lives within the past month.
Reacting to the directive, the Fulani association described the order as dangerous and warned that it could further escalate tensions in the state if not reconsidered.
The group urged the government to adopt dialogue, justice, and peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms rather than what it described as a hardline approach to the crisis.
The association also appealed to security agencies to remain professional in the discharge of their duties and avoid actions that could lead to the targeting of innocent citizens, particularly pastoral communities already affected by the lingering violence.
The latest development comes as Plateau State continues to grapple with recurring clashes linked to land disputes, farming activities, and communal tensions across several local government areas.
Residents and stakeholders have continued to call for stronger security measures alongside reconciliation efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace in the troubled region.
