FOR the second time in many months, the Araromi spare parts market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital was in the early hours of Saturday gutted by fire, a source told News Point Nigeria, Saturday.
According to the source, the market is one of the major markets in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
News Point Nigeria gathered that, the fire incident, which started around 2am affected about Fifty-five (55) shops.
Oyo State Fire Service has also confirmed the incident, General Manager of the State Fire Service, Rev. Canon Yemi Akinyinka, while confirming the incident To News Point Nigeria via a telephone conversation said, the men of the command were able to quench the fire around 4:45am on Saturday.
Akinyinka, added that, “Our men are at Araromi Market Agodi Gate since 2:30am, where they are putting off the fire caused by indiscriminate refuse burning.
“The fire was suppressed at 4:45am and cooling down operation is ongoing to suppress reignition. On my way for on the spot assessment.
“I cannot say specifically the number of shops now, you know it is an emergency. It started in the night. About 55 shops I think”.
News Point Nigeria recalled that, in April 2021, an early morning fire, on a Saturday too, razed the auto spare parts market at Agodi-Gate, Ibadan.
According to an eyewitness then, Mr Ismail Dauda, the fire started from the tyre section before spreading to other parts of the market, especially the car engine section and other shops, with goods worth millions destroyed.
