THE Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has made a decisive move to bolster the Super Eagles by initiating contact with Newcastle United striker William Osula over a potential switch in international allegiance.
News Point Nigeria Sport gathered that the approach is part of ongoing efforts by the football body to attract dual-eligible players with the potential to strengthen the national team ahead of upcoming international engagements.
Osula, 22, was born in Copenhagen to a Danish mother and a Nigerian-French father, making him eligible to represent Denmark, France, or Nigeria at senior level.
Despite his multiple eligibility options, the forward has previously featured for Denmark at youth level, positioning the Scandinavian country as the frontrunner for his international future until now.
The situation, however, appears to have shifted following his recent call-up to the Danish senior national team for matches against North Macedonia and the Czech Republic in March.
Although included in the squad, Osula did not make an appearance in either game, leaving his international future still open and providing Nigeria with a crucial window to step up its interest.
Sources indicate that the NFF has already established initial contact with the player as it intensifies efforts to secure his commitment to the Super Eagles.
Football journalist Farzam Abolhosseini confirmed the development in a post on X, revealing that Nigeria had reached out to the striker through his background.
“William Osula has been contacted by the Nigerian Football Federation through his background, who want the bomber from Newcastle to represent the African country instead of Denmark,” Abolhosseini wrote.
“He was selected for the Danish national team in March, but did not make his debut.”
The development signals Nigeria’s intent to remain competitive in the global race for dual-nationality talents, particularly as European nations continue to court players of African descent.
Should the move materialise, Osula could provide additional attacking options for the Super Eagles, bringing youth, versatility, and Premier League exposure to the squad.
With his senior international debut yet to be secured, the coming months are expected to be decisive in determining where the promising forward will commit his international future.
