AHEAD of Vice President Kashim Shettima’s condolence visit to the family of the late Bamanga Tukur, the Adamawa State Police Command has deployed heavily armed anti-riot policemen and armoured tanks to strategic areas in Yola, the state capital.
News Point Nigeria reports that the deployment is part of security measures put in place by the command ahead of the Vice President’s official visit to the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the command’s spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the police had put in place comprehensive security arrangements across Yola and other strategic locations in Adamawa State.
The statement read: “Ahead of the official visit of His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Adamawa State, the Adamawa State Police Command has deployed adequate security and placed watertight security measures across Yola and other strategic locations in the State.”
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Hassan, ordered the deployment, adding that the command had mobilised its operational assets, including personnel from the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Intelligence, Traffic and Divisional Police Officers, to ensure a hitch-free visit.
The CP further stated that there would be traffic diversions and stop-and-search operations in and around the state capital.
He advised members of the public to cooperate with security personnel and remain law-abiding throughout the visit.
The police commissioner also warned miscreants and criminally minded individuals to keep their distance and steer clear of venues designated for the visit, stressing that the command would not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone who attempted to cause a breach of the peace or disrupt the Vice President’s condolence visit to Yola.
The command further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or movements to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
The commissioner reassured the people of Adamawa State of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
