POLICE authorities in Kaduna State have rescued 75 people, comprising men, women and children, who were abducted by suspected bandits in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of the state.
News Point Nigeria reports that the victims were travelling in commercial buses when they were allegedly attacked and kidnapped by the bandits at Folwaya Village, near Birnin Gwari, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, confirmed the rescue in a statement, saying all the victims had been successfully rescued.
According to him, the police received information about the abduction from the Birnin Gwari branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Hassan said the abductors, who were reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons, took the victims into a forest after the attack and concealed them inside a cave located in a mountainous area.
Following the report, a team of police operatives from the Birnin Gwari Area Command was immediately deployed to the location to rescue the captives and pursue the suspected bandits.
The police spokesman said the abductors fled upon sighting the heavily armed security operatives, abandoning the victims behind.
“All 75 victims were subsequently rescued unharmed,” the police said.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Rabiu Muhammad, commended the NURTW for providing the timely information that aided the successful rescue operation.
Muhammad also praised the Birnin Gwari Area Commander and the police operatives involved in the operation for what he described as their swift and professional response.
The Commissioner of Police urged residents of the state to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security authorities.
He, however, cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, warning that such actions could result in the loss of innocent lives.
