TROOPS of the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued six kidnapped victims after engaging suspected terrorists in a fierce gun battle in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
News Point Nigeria reports that the victims were rescued on Wednesday, September 2, following credible intelligence on terrorist activity at Mehinua Village along the Wasagu-Ayu Road.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Joint Task Force Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, troops from Sector 2 swiftly mobilised to the area after receiving the intelligence and moved to disrupt the terrorists’ activities.
Danja said the troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce exchange of gunfire, with the military intervention forcing the terrorists to flee and abandon the kidnapped victims at the scene.
The six victims were subsequently rescued unharmed, while the vehicle involved in the operation was also recovered and handed over alongside the victims to the relevant community authorities for further necessary action.
The successful operation came after troops responded rapidly to intelligence indicating the presence of suspected terrorists around Mehinua Village, demonstrating the importance of timely information and swift military intervention in tackling kidnapping and other criminal activities along vulnerable routes in the North-West.
The military said the operation underscored Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s determination to protect the lives and property of law-abiding citizens across its Joint Operations Area.
It also reaffirmed the task force’s resolve to sustain operations aimed at denying terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action, while protecting communities and restoring security along major access routes.
The military appealed to residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security outpost to facilitate timely intervention.
The task force also appreciated the continued support and cooperation of members of the public, urging communities to provide timely and credible information to security forces in support of ongoing operations.
