FOLLOWING the constitution of the All Progressives Congress Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he would have declined the position of Director-General if President Bola Tinubu had offered it to him.
News Point Nigeria reports that Wike made the remark on Saturday during an inspection of ongoing projects in the nation’s capital, including the 13-kilometre Apo-Karshi Road and the 14-kilometre Bwari-Kubwa Road.
Wike said those who had occupied the campaign Director-General position in previous elections had failed to deliver their respective states during presidential elections, stressing that he was therefore not interested in the role but was focused on winning Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory for President Bola Tinubu.
According to him, there is no fulfilment in serving on a campaign council when one cannot even deliver his state when the time for reckoning comes.
He, however, pledged that the “rainbow coalition” was in full activation mode and would work within its capacity to ensure the re-election of President Tinubu.
President Tinubu on Saturday constituted the APC Presidential Campaign Council, appointing former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, as Secretary.
The composition of the council was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima will serve as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the council, respectively.
Tinubu will work with a body of advisers comprising Bisi Akande, Segun Osoba, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State were assigned as Deputy Director-Generals for the campaign in the South and North, and will work with Senator Bamidele Opeyemi and Senator Jibril Barau in the two zones.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole will serve as Deputy Director-General in charge of mobilisation, while the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will serve as Deputy Director-General for administration.
A federal lawmaker, James Faleke, who played a pivotal role in the 2022/2023 campaign, returns as Deputy Director-General for election planning, coordination and monitoring.
He will work with zonal directors, including Senator Olushola Adeyeye in the South-West, Ngozi Olejeme in the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife in the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe in the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso in the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi in the North-East.
