THE Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, has renewed his call for religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and collective responsibility among citizens, using the occasion of Easter to emphasise the need for unity across faiths.
In a goodwill message to Christians in the state and across Nigeria, the governor congratulated the faithful on the celebration of Easter, while urging deeper reflection on the core values of sacrifice, love, and compassion that define the season.
According to the message sent to News Point Nigeria by Emmanuel Bello, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Digital Communications, Kefas noted that Easter remains one of the most significant events in Christianity, commemorating the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“On behalf of my family and the government of Taraba State, I heartily felicitate with the Christian community on this highly revered occasion of Easter,” the governor stated.
He described the celebration as the pinnacle of the Christian faith, stressing that the essence of life and belief is anchored on the redemptive sacrifice of Christ.
Reflecting on the spiritual journey leading to Easter, the governor pointed out that the 40-day period of fasting, prayer, almsgiving, and abstinence should inspire individuals to reassess their lives and relationships with others.
According to him, the essence of being a Christian lies in living a Christ-like life marked by humility, sacrifice, and love for one’s neighbour.
“The coinage ‘Christian’ in itself means to be like Christ. It is, therefore, imperative that we use this Easter season to reflect on our lives and our relationship with our neighbours,” he said.
Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting peace and harmony in Taraba State, noting that the government would not relent in its efforts to ensure the security of lives and property for all residents, regardless of religious or ethnic background.
He, however, urged citizens to remain vigilant and proactive in supporting security agencies, stressing that safeguarding communities is a shared responsibility.
“Watch and pray, and report any suspicious activity to security agencies. Our security is our collective responsibility,” the governor added.
While wishing Christians a peaceful and fulfilling Easter celebration, Kefas emphasised the importance of togetherness, tolerance, and mutual respect in building a stronger and more united society.
