Shooting End El Kanemi Winning Run, Ikorodu beat Katsina Away

EMMANUEL Solomon scored two goals for Ikorodu City, who came from behind to beat Katsina United 2-1 in an NPFL matchday 11 encounter at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Sunday.

It was the Lagos-based club’s second consecutive win of the campaign, having defeated Rivers United 2-0 last week to condemn the Pride of Rivers to their first defeat of the season.

Moses Effiong put the hosts ahead 22 minutes into the encounter before Solomon drew the visitors level seconds before the end of the first 45 minutes.

He scored the winning goal minutes before regulation time as Ikorodu held out to claim their fourth win of the season and climb to 12th on the table with 14 points, two more than Katsina, who dropped to 17th.

Meanwhile, the biggest game of the weekend saw Enyimba and Remo Stars battle to a goalless draw in a thrilling encounter in Aba.

The results leave the Peoples Elephant remained in third position, while the Sky Blue Stars moved to the top of the league with 22 points following Rivers United’s loss to Bayelsa United at Adokiye Amiesiamaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The homers, whose unbeaten run was halted at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena last Sunday, suffered another defeat at home to Bayelsa United.

Heartland continued with their impressive run of form as they made it three straight wins on the trot following a 1-0 victory over Sunshine Stars.

Christian Molokwu’s eight-minute striker was enough to see Emmanuel Amuneke’s side claim all three points and move to ninth in the table with 15 points.

The defeat was Sunshine’s fourth of the season, and coach Kennedy Boboye immediately resigned from his post.

Kwara United and Niger Tornadoes claimed victories over Nasarawa United and Akwa United, respectively.

Plateau United and Enugu Rangers played a goalless draw in Jos.

In the last game of the weekend, two first-half goals from Samuel Ayanrinde and Abubakar Aliyu gave Shooting Stars a commanding 2-0 lead, culminating in a 3-0 win over El Kanemi Warriors, their first loss of the campaign.

Adam Mustapha added the third in the 61st minute as the Oluyole Warriors triumphed 3-0 to climb to 10th position.
